Welcome to the J. Oliva Huot Career and Technical Center! It is my belief that our center is the hidden gem of the Lakes Region, offering an invaluable experience to young people from each of our six sending schools. For over thirty years, the Huot Center has provided opportunity for students to explore their career interests under the guidance of skilled industry professionals. With the opening of our new building in 2013, the center became a cutting-edge hub for workforce development in our region.
The Huot Center enrolls over 400 students a year. More than a third of all high school students from our partner districts will participate in Huot program at some point in their high school career! We are truly a regional center with approximately half of our students travelling by bus each day to attend their class. This regional partnering has provided us the strong enrollment to offer a truly balanced menu of courses to our students.
I am very proud of our students and staff. From expanding internships and adding new student credentials to winning state level awards, our center has continued to lead the way. We are also incredibly fortunate to have the support of our industry partners. There are simply too many people and partners devoting their time and energy to list them all. Over a hundred businesses each year will give of their time and resources each year to support our work. Thank you!
We also expect our students to give back. From organizing blood drives and catering community events, to running cameras for the Lakes Region Children’s Auction and gathering canned food each holiday season, Huot students learn the importance of community service. If you choose to enroll in our center we will teach you both the technical skills and also critical employability skills needed to succeed in career and college.
As I enter my sixth year at the Huot Center, and eighteenth year in CTE overall, I have no question that our work is making a difference. I encourage you to visit our center yourself and see all that career and technical education has to offer. - David Warrender
